Peter is therefore earthing his teaching in difficult cases to test out and apply his strategy. And in each case his teaching is profoundly counter-cultural. Whereas in our own society our automatic reaction to difficulty is the exercise of power to assert our rights, Peter encourages Christians in positions of weakness to adopt his strategy of Christ-like, cross-shaped living, trusting that God will work through their weakness to bring about changes which will glorify His name.
